Hi, I saw your board and wanted to contact you. A little about myself - I am a Christian, although I understand that is a loaded word. More accurately I would prefer to say I am a dedicated follower of Christ and His teachings, because I believe He is the source of truth and the church in general has corrupted many of His teachings into grotesque lies. I have a BS in Engineering Physics and Electrical Engineering, and a MS in Engineering Physics/Materials Science, both from Rensselaer. After working with NASA for a few years, I moved to TN to work with the Solid State Physics Department at Oak Ridge National Lab. I then decided to switch to the life sciences and recieved my Ph.D. from Quillen in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Since then, I have been running a biotech company in Johnson City for 4 years now.
Anyway, I didn't grow up a Christian. My mother was of the new age school of teaching called ASTARA, and never really tried to indoctrinate me growing up. My father was of no religious persuasion. When I was 16, I started to study Einstein's theory of relativity and was just beginning to understand relativistic phenomena, such as time dilation and the strange aspects of electromagnetic waves that form the mathematical basis for his theories. About this time I had heard from an outside source that God described Himself as "light" in this book called the Bible, which I had never really heard of or read (I was quite sheltered as a kid). This turned me on to studying more about this God because I started to see parallels between God and the properties of light through the theory of relativity. This is what started me on the path to eventually giving my life over to Christ.
Anyway, I saw your group and read some of the blogsites to get a background on what you all believe and some of your backgrounds. I'm an older fellow (37 years old), and love all of the sciences. I was wondering if someone like me would be invited to come to some of your group meetings- not to argue or debate. I see a lot of that kind of thing on the internet through other blog sites and I don't see anything valuable or productive coming out of hateful discourse. However, I do see value in talking with other people who don't think like you to get other points of view in a kind and civilized way. So, if I would be welcomed into your group with that kind of spirit, then I would like to come and here what some of you have to say. If not, then I wish you the best and maybe we can get into some discussions through some other vehicles your group would be more comfortable with.
